Nieuwe Vide @ Haarlemse Herfst
Dates: 28,29, 30th of September 2018
Location: Stal Vosse, Haarlem
Curator: Lennard Dost
Artist: Bernardo Zanotta. Zanotta was Nieuwe Vide’s Focus Artist 2018. The Focus Artist concept was initiated by me and started in 2016. From 2016 on each year there was 1 artist with whom we collaborated intensively. He/she got a solo-project, participated in group exhibitions and represented Nieuwe Vide at an art fair. Zanotta also represented Nieuwe Vide at Haarlemse Herfst 2018 festival and helped with organising the exhibition of USA filmmaker Damon Packard (that opened in February 2019)
Curator: Lennard Dost
Concept: Nieuwe Vide presented Zanotta during the Haarlemse Herfst festival 2018. His video installation ‘Second Dawn’ (2018) transformed Riding School Vosse in Haarlem into a theatre in which a science fiction story unfolded. The video was based on Arthur C. Clarke’s similar titled proze story from 1951. Zanotta’s film had the structure of a story in a story: on the one hand it was related to Clarke’s original text, on the other hand the process of dehumanization between two actors was recorded, the loss of own perspective and the transformation of an almost beastly community into a technological civilization

WE ARE AS GODS AND MIGHT AS WELL GET GOOD AT IT
date: 7th of Sept – 4th of nov 2018
About: Whole Earth Catalog. Whole Earth Catalog was a paper guide founded and published by Stewart Brand, between 1968 and 1972, and loved by hippies and supporters of the counterculture. Brand studied biology at Stanford University in California, design at the San Francisco Art Institute and photography at San Francisco State University. He played an important role in the countercultural movement in California of the sixties of 20th century and specifically in the San Francisco Bay Area. In Whole Earth Catalog he wrote about ecology, but also about new technologies and the relationship between the two. Brand strongly believed in the power of self-training and the new technology. As such, for example, he coined the term ‘personal computer’. With ‘We are as gods and might as well get good at it’ we researched the legacy and current significance of Whole Earth Catalog exactly 50 years after the creation of the magazine

GOLF-FESTIVAL 2018
Dates: 21st, 22nd, 23rd December 2018
GOLF was a new, three-day festival with performances, installations and lectures about the interaction between image and sound. GOLF was organised by the Haarlem based cultural organisations 37PK, Nieuwe Vide and Pletterij in cooperation with art initiative Quartair from The Hague. The festival took place at three locations in Haarlem: 37PK, Pletterij and Nieuwe Vide, where each location offered a program that matched their character and approach.
The name GOLF (Dutch for “wave”) referred to the way in which sound and light come to us, as waves, and it referred to the artists who took the stage during this festival and who were part of a wave of new, exciting experimental art forms
